A note on the importance of proof reading

You only get one chance to make a first impression and if that impression is poor then you may have jeopardised a business opportunity forever. Many people are insensitive to poor spelling, grammar and punctuation, that is why there is so much of it about. However, if your prospective client notices such matters then your uncorrected document might well be your passport to failure. Rest assured that in the tricky world of business politics, if somebody is against using you, or your services, then your typos will be ruthlessly turned against you, and you have no adequate means of reply or defence. The opponents of your case have been handed a weapon to turn upon you. For flawless presentation, from the smallest flyer to long, complex documents, nothing gets close to professional proof reading in eliminating errors in typography, spelling, grammar and style inconsistency. At Professional Imagemaker we strive very hard to eliminate errors at the page layout stage; they are an expensive, time-consuming chore to correct later in the production cycle. Despite this we very rarely create a flawless page, typically only one or two in a 140-page issue. We therefore rely on Everything Write to oversee all our editorial copy and also to provide professional advice on the correct use of English and style consistency – it is a key part of our production cycle. We advise others to do likewise, you never know who is reading your business material and passing comment on your punctuation!
